Iowans still in limbo as healthcare talks set to begin in Congress

DES MOINES, Iowa — With the government reopen, Iowans who rely on Affordable Care Act tax credits are eagerly awaiting to see how Congress will act.

Among those Iowans is Amber Gustafson, a small business owner who has been using the Health Insurance Marketplace since its inception. She remembers the last time access was up in the air and the iconic moment when John McCain cast the deciding vote.

For her, the marketplace is essential because she and her husband both run a local business and can’t rely on company plans. It’s a situation many farmers and small business owners in Iowa face.
